Shulhani deals exclusively in physical, allocated gold and silver — sourced through an established coin and precious metals dealer, delivered to you.
Shulhani (שולחני) is Hebrew for "money changer" — literally "table man," from shulchan, "table." In Jerusalem during the Second Temple period, the shulhanim set up their tables in the outer court of the Temple to exchange foreign currency for worshippers — the same money changers referenced in Matthew 21:12. It's the historical root of the exchange banker's trade.
Under Basel III, allocated physical gold held by banks carries a 0% risk weighting and counts toward Tier 1 capital — the same tier as cash and government bonds. It's part of why central banks have kept adding to reserves.
This describes the regulatory standard for bank-held gold. It does not mean coins purchased at retail are held on a bank's balance sheet.
For decades, gold sat in the same regulatory bucket as riskier commodities. That changed under Basel III. Regulators now treat allocated physical gold with a 0% risk weighting, letting banks count it as Tier 1 capital — the same category as cash and government bonds.
Silver tracks gold's monetary role while adding a second demand engine: solar, EVs, and AI infrastructure all consume real, physical silver.
The bottom line: the regulatory ground under precious metals has shifted. Shulhani exists to make that same asset class available to individual buyers — not as a bet, but as a foundation.
The regulatory classification that inspired our name. Central banks have been net buyers of gold for over a decade under this framework.
We deal in the same physical, allocated asset class banks use to meet capital requirements.

The gold standard of gold coins — literally. Backed by the full weight of the U.S. Mint, Saint-Gaudens' Liberty strides across the obverse with an eagle guarding its nest on the reverse. A cornerstone for any serious collection.
24-karat gold at its purest — .9999 fine, struck by the U.S. Mint. The iconic Buffalo design has been a favorite on collector and investor shelves alike since it debuted.
The coin that launched the modern bullion movement. One of the most widely held and recognized gold coins on Earth since 1967 — Paul Kruger on one side, a bounding springbok on the other.
The same striking "Boxing Match" design as our NGC-graded proof — King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV on the obverse — in proof-like condition at a spot-linked price. A more accessible way to own this scarce Olympic commemorative.
America's most traded silver coin, and for good reason — Weinman's Walking Liberty is one of the most beloved designs in U.S. coinage. Only 6 of this exact 2016 prestige-condition piece remain; beyond that, available in tubes of 10 or 20.
A hard-to-find piece from Shulhani's own private collection — the HMS Bounty in full sail on the reverse, Elizabeth II on the obverse, and genuine anti-counterfeiting micro-engraving worked into the design itself.
This price isn't frozen — it moves a little with the silver market from here, the same way any silver-backed asset does. If silver trends up, this coin's price trends up with it; if silver pulls back, so does the price.
In 1789, the famous Mutiny on the Bounty against Captain William Bligh unfolded in the waters near Tonga — one of the most legendary events in maritime history. Bligh and his loyal crew were cast into a 23-foot open boat and survived an extraordinary 3,600-nautical-mile voyage to safety. Own a piece of that legend: HMS Bounty, struck in silver, ready to sail into your collection.

The same beloved Bounty design as our 2020 piece — a quiet, distinctive addition to any collection.

Days after the mutiny, Bligh's small boat sought supplies on the Tongan island of Tofua — and quartermaster John Norton lost his life there on May 2, 1789, one of the saga's most sobering chapters. This coin carries that Tongan connection directly, the same islands and waters featured throughout Shulhani's own collection. History, tragedy, and legend — all struck in silver.

A substantial five troy ounces of fine silver, commemorating the XXIV Olympiad's swimming events. Calculated at checkout based on the buyer's state. Many states exempt investment-grade bullion above a minimum purchase amount or purity — confirm your state's threshold before publishing a fixed rate.
Base coverage is standard insurance issued by USPS on every shipment. Orders whose value exceeds standard USPS coverage can add extra insurance at checkout to cover the full order value.
Final total = coin price(s) + sales tax + shipping (by weight, below). All orders ship fully insured with tracking.
Modeled on UPS's 2026 Declared Value fee formula: first $100 of value free, $100.01–$300 flat $5.10, and $1.70 per additional $100 (rounded up) above $300.
⚠️ Important: UPS's own tariff excludes coins, cash, and raw bullion (over 50% gold/platinum by weight) from shipment terms and from Declared Value coverage — a claim on a lost coin shipment would likely be denied as an excluded commodity, regardless of the fee paid. The figures below are a cost-modeling reference only, not a representation that UPS insures these shipments. Shulhani's actual insurance is obtained through postage (USPS), which does not carry the same blanket exclusion on coins that UPS does — see the Insurance policy below for how base and additional coverage work. USPS Registered Mail in particular is built for high-value/precious items. UPS's declared-value cap is also $50,000 per package ($70,000 with Enhanced approval), so higher-value orders (e.g. a 20-coin gold tube) would exceed what UPS covers even in principle.
| Order Value | Example | UPS Declared Value Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Up to $100 | Single Silver Eagle ($79.66) | $0 (included) |
| $100.01 – $300 | — | $5.10 flat |
| $300 – $1,700 | Silver tube of 20 ($1,593.27) | $27.20 |
| $300 – $4,500 | Single Gold Eagle ($4,466.20) | $76.50 |
| $300 – $44,600 | Gold tube of 10 ($44,661.98) | $758.20 |
| Over $50,000 | Gold tube of 20 ($89,323.96) | Exceeds UPS's declared value cap — not coverable via standard UPS service |
Every coin sold on Shulhani is sourced through a trusted, established dealer — not anonymous marketplaces or unverified sellers.
Shulhani (שולחני) is Hebrew for "money changer" — literally "table man," from shulchan, "table." In Second Temple-era Jerusalem, the shulhanim set up their tables in the outer court of the Temple to exchange foreign currency for worshippers, the same money changers described in Matthew 21:12. It's the historical root of the exchange banker's trade — and the reason our by-appointment location is named Outer Courts.
Today, Shulhani is a private dealer specializing in physical gold and silver coins for investors and collectors. Standard online purchases are typically single coins or small quantities, generally under $10,000 — larger transactions, like our gold tubes of 10 or 20 coins, are handled by appointment at Outer Courts.
Our name and positioning are also inspired by a modern banking standard: under Basel III, allocated physical gold is treated as a Tier 1, 0%-risk-weighted capital asset by financial institutions. We believe that same quality — tangible, durable, globally recognized value — makes gold and silver a smart addition to an individual's portfolio too.
Central banks have been steadily accumulating gold for over a decade, a trend that accelerated further with the regulatory shift under Basel III. We make that same asset class accessible to individual buyers, with transparent pricing, verified sourcing, and secure transactions.
Shulhani is a private precious metals dealer, not a chartered bank. "Exchange" in our name refers to the historical trade of money changing, not a claim to be a financial institution.
We accept PayPal and standard credit/debit card payment, processed through secure, encrypted checkout.
Every order ships with standard insurance issued by USPS included in the base shipping cost. For orders whose value exceeds standard USPS coverage, additional insurance can be purchased at checkout to cover the full order value.
We protect customer information and do not sell data to third parties. Shulhani complies with applicable federal and state reporting requirements for precious metals dealers.
Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery. Returns are priced at the spot price on the day and time the coin was originally purchased — not the spot price at the time of return. The premium, tax, and shipping/insurance charges paid at the time of purchase are already spent and are not refundable. Returned coins must be undamaged and in the same condition as shipped.
American Eagle orders are fulfilled from available inventory and may include earlier years mixed in with recent mintages. All years carry the same metal content and purity, so pricing does not change based on year received.
As a private dealer, Shulhani keeps standard online orders limited to one (1) gold coin per order — generally under $10,000. Multiple-coin quantities (tubes) can be viewed and purchased by appointment only, at 735 Green St., East Palo Alto, CA 94303 (Outer Courts), Monday–Friday 9:00am–5:00pm, Saturday 10:00am–2:00pm (closed Sunday). Transactions at or above $10,000 — online or in person, including cash — are subject to federal reporting requirements (IRS Form 8300) regardless of order size or transaction type. Shulhani does not offer confidentiality from applicable reporting obligations, and does not structure transactions to avoid them.
We're a private dealer built on trust — and nothing builds trust like hearing from real customers.
"Brian is a nice and friendly dealer of precious metals. I was purchasing gold and silver from him and met him at a local church here in East Palo Alto — he was honest and down to earth. You'll get a fair, good deal when you take the time to chat with him. It was truly my honor to meet a local precious metals dealer like Brian."— Regal L., verified buyer
